Move from a product requirement to structured engineering work
AI Engineer is a controlled engineering workspace that helps users define a product, organize technical context, prepare CAD work, coordinate simulation and testing, and keep the resulting evidence connected to the project. The app combines AI reasoning with project data, specialist engineering roles, and a validated SolidWorks execution path.
AI Engineer is an AI assisted product engineering application for managing the work between an initial product idea and engineering deliverables. A user can create a project, describe the product to be developed, attach reference material, and ask the app to interpret the requirement. The app turns that input into a structured engineering intent package that can cover planned parts, materials, interfaces, assemblies, simulation needs, tests, assumptions, and expected outputs.
The application does more than provide a general chat response. It maintains a project workspace, records engineering artifacts, tracks the current design and open problems, and connects proposed actions to evidence. SolidWorks remains the CAD execution environment. AI Engineer prepares and validates the work that the SolidWorks bridge is allowed to perform.
Step 1
Title: Create a project
Text: Start with a project name and a product requirement. Attach sketches, images, specifications, or other reference files that should inform the work.
Step 2
Title: Interpret the requirement
Text: AI Engineer analyzes the brief and relevant project context. It produces a structured engineering intent package for review, including the proposed component plan, materials, geometry, interfaces, verification expectations, assembly approach, simulation plan, test plan, assumptions, and source references.
Step 3
Title: Review and refine the plan
Text: The user can inspect the plan before CAD work begins, add clarification, attach more references, or ask the app to refine specific parts of the proposed design.
Step 4
Title: Prepare controlled CAD work
Text: Approved engineering intent becomes a validated CAD command package. The SolidWorks worker can create supported parts, assemblies, drawings, and neutral exports without exposing unrestricted code or raw command execution to the AI model.
Step 5
Title: Stage simulation and testing
Text: The app can create simulation and test packages from the same engineering intent. Results and status information return to the project as evidence rather than disappearing into a separate workflow.
Step 6
Title: Inspect results and continue
Text: Deliverables, run artifacts, design changes, open problems, and available evidence remain visible in the project workspace. The user can ask questions, revise the requirement, approve the next action, or begin another engineering cycle.
Define a product
Capture a product requirement and attach reference material in a project workspace.
Review an engineering plan
Inspect the AI generated component, assembly, material, simulation, and test plan before execution.
Ask project aware questions
Use the Chief Engineer chat to discuss the active design, open problems, evidence, changes, and next steps.
Coordinate specialist work
Deploy a task graph that assigns focused engineering work to the relevant specialist roles.
Generate supported CAD outputs
Send validated work to SolidWorks and collect native files, drawings, exports, and job records.
Keep evidence with the design
Connect simulation, testing, design review, and revision history to the project state they evaluate.
Refine and iterate
Use findings to revise the design, create a new revision, and plan only the checks that need to run again.
Inspect system status
See the health of OpenAI services, the SolidWorks bridge, the project, jobs, and generated artifacts.
Less context rebuilding
Project memory and structured state reduce the need to explain the same product from the beginning in every session.
A clearer path from request to deliverable
The workflow connects the product brief, engineering plan, CAD job, simulation package, and generated files.
Traceable design decisions
Requirements, revisions, evidence, failures, and proposed changes can remain linked instead of being scattered across conversations and folders.
Focused use of AI
Specialist roles and bounded retrieval give the model relevant engineering context while keeping authoritative project state outside the chat transcript.
Controlled SolidWorks automation
A validated bridge and capability checks limit execution to supported operations and make job outcomes easier to audit.
Evidence based iteration
Simulation and test results can inform a new revision while preserving which evidence applies to each design state.
Question : Does AI Engineer replace SolidWorks?
Answer : No. SolidWorks remains the CAD environment and execution engine. AI Engineer interprets requirements, prepares supported work, coordinates the lifecycle, and records the resulting artifacts and evidence.
Question : Can the AI run any SolidWorks command?
Answer : No. The app sends schema constrained jobs through a controlled bridge. The available operations depend on validated capabilities in the connected SolidWorks environment.
Question : Does the app create real CAD files?
Answer : For supported builders and a correctly configured SolidWorks worker, the workflow can create native SolidWorks files and related exports. Complex geometry may still require manual modeling or additional feature builders.
Question : What happens to uploaded references?
Answer : References are stored in the project workspace and can be indexed for project retrieval. Supported images may also be included as vision inputs during requirement interpretation. File processing depends on type, size, and deployment configuration.
Question : How does Project Brain help?
Answer : Project Brain summarizes the active design, open problems, latest results, specialist team, and memory domains. It gives the AI a structured view of the project beyond the latest chat message.
Question : Does a completed simulation mean the design passed?
Answer : No. Solver completion and engineering acceptance are separate states. Results must meet the defined gates and require the appropriate human review.
Question : Can AI Engineer release a design by itself?
Answer : No. The system prohibits AI self approval. Final design review, manufacturing release, and other consequential actions require explicit human approval.
Question : Which SolidWorks version does the app support?
Answer : The current repository and worker are centered on SolidWorks 2016. The architecture also uses capability detection so deployments can report what the installed provider and add-ins can actually perform.
